Tonight after dinner, I knocked out a quick bench session before 7:30 PM. I wired a Jose-style Marshall circuit into a small 6V6 amp, and then converted a high-gain amp into a Trainwreck Express. Each swap only took about 25 minutes or so! The secret is the modular system I built. The cards were already assembled—I call them the 4pre cards. They hold a 2x12AX7 setup in a modular design. Unlike the old Randall modules that have an edge connector so any guitar player can swap them, these are removable only by a tech.I absolutely love this modular system and mainly use the platform for prototyping. It could easily be sold as the "50 Series," which is basically a JTM45 platform running these modular cards—it’s an incredible system for a tech. I could even sell the cards separately if anyone is interested; there’s a preamp card, a phase inverter card, and a power supply card.The power tubes and pots are completely hardwired, which is perfect when you're switching from a high-gain amp to a Plexi type, or in this case, a non-master volume Trainwreck circuit. I wanted to float an Idea out and get some opinions, If I were to make an amp that was a single channel offering and only had a dirty channel but possibly with two gain pots that makes it easier to get a workable clean tone out of it, but its designed more to rock out and get somewhat high gain tones out of it, would that amp work for a lot of people it is really a pain to make multi-channel amps you need two rows of knobs and channel switching and all that which I have covered in the LIL Ugly and the Big Ugly, of course you can make a single channel clean amp and that may be the more practical thing to do, but I wanted to see what people think about a single channel dirty amp, I have a JTM45 platform where I can build this amp called the 50 series anyway thoughts? ...
